Exercise #2
(7) The character that writes a 'Cruddy' book is "the cruddy girl named
Roberta."
(2) Proulx presents strong adjectives to describe the correct procedure, "brought delicately to his hand from under the bull's belly, climbed up the rails and pulled it taut."
(2) Not only is a bitterness tone expressed, but also pure anger with some words and even sentences being capitalized such as "...because her little sister will NOT shut up she will NOT shut up SHE WILL NOT SHUT UP and Roberta is about to BASH her little sister's HEAD IN IF SHE DOES NOT SHUT UP."

Exercise #1
In this excerpt from The Mud Below, Proulx expresses the adrenaline filled scene with an intense, almost explosive, and symbolic style that introduces a sense of hopeful appreciation. The bull "loose-skinned brindle Brahma-cross identified in the program as Little Kisses." The amount of time implies "the adrenaline roses up on his cheeks..neck gleaming with sweat." The imagistic rodeo night illustrates the emotional and physical preparation in the hot little town of Okie. The author seems to suggest a sense of unaccomplished pride. Proulx presents strong adjectives to describe the correct procedure, "brought delicately to his hand from under the bull's belly, climbed up the rails and pulled it taut."In contrast to the bull ride, the hardships verifies a sense of calling, like it's meant to be.
